Alpha Course

Commencing on Sunday 27th August, The Alpha Course will run for approximately 10 weeks on Sunday mornings at 9:30AM at Restore Family Church

What Is Alpha?

Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith, typically run over eleven weeks. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone's welcome. It runs in cafés, churches, universities, homes – you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but generally they have three key things in common: food, a talk and good conversation.

The talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Usually around thirty minutes long, they can be given as a live talk or played as a video. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions from Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith? to Why and how do I pray? and How does God guide us?

Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There's no obligation to say anything and there's nothing you can't say (seriously). It's an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.

Millions of people have tried Alpha all around the world, and it has been translated into 112 different languages. Developed as a short course at HTB in London, in 1990 Nicky Gumbel took over running Alpha and found that many people outside of the church wanted to explore the Christian faith. Alpha now runs in every part of the global church, including the Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church and all mainline Protestant denominations. Bear Grylls has become the embodiment of adventure and outdoor survival in the public imagination. As well as being an adventurer, writer and television presenter, Bear is sharing his story with the world as part of a global invitation to explore faith.

About Us

Restore Family Church is a contemporary Australian Christian Churches (ACC) church. We are a community-orientated family church that loves Jesus! Pastored by Kathy Scott, we meet at 9.30am every Sunday at Bayside Christian College, Robinsons Road, Langwarrin Victoria.

Our Mission Statement

To be a Global Evangelistic Church which empowers believers to live passionate, devoted and victorious Christian lives

Missionaries

Restore Family Church prayerfully support and financially assist some of our dear friends working overseas for God's glory. Wambeye and Loice are the Pastors at the Kingdom Foundation Christian Centre in Africa. Restore Family Church is partnering with this couple to see God's Kingdom build in Kenya and beyond. So far their support has provided food, shelter, fire wood and supplies for a home that houses 16 children.

Volunteering

Restore Family Church is a place where we want you to feel comfortable enough to put up your hand if you ever want to volunteer. We have many areas in which we need assistance at church and in our community.

Tiny Tots

A warm and caring environment awaits your baby or toddler at our special Tiny Tots church! We have a qualified assistant who will supervise and play with your little one so you can enjoy the morning service. Parents can drop their children off in the Tiny Tots room at the start of every church service and pick up directly afterwards. The Tiny Tots church has a structured Bible-based play time where the children learn about Jesus through stories, singing, dancing plus art and craft activities. Donations of books and toys welcome please!

Kids Church

Blast is our kids ministry that runs during the Sunday service for students in grade 1 to grade 5. We believe no one is too young to have faith and encounter God, therefor after worship with their family; the kids come out and have a tailor program, to enable them to grow in God and of course to have loads of fun.

Encounter is our youth ministry that runs during the Sunday service for students in grade 6 to year 12. Encounter consists of two groups, Ka-Boom grades 6 to year 8; and Precision years 9 to 12.The students gather each week (during the school term) after worship with their family, to have fun and to learn more about God.

Social Groups

Often, small groups of people are better able to interact and learn about a topic than larger groups are. For that reason, Restore Family Church has small bible studies held in member homes. The size of the group is anywhere from four to twelve. At a time, designated by your group, you can participate in the small group study. We have a great selection of christian social groups at Restore Family Church and would love you to come along to any that interest you!

Women

Restore Family Church gives the ladies in our church family special times of interaction. Our women’s group is located in Carrum Downs. The time together provides a refreshing discipleship opportunity for the women in the church as they participate in a bible-based study, prayer and friendship. The ladies are currently meeting every week on a Wednesday night.

Men

Restore Family Church has an amazing congregation full of people with a variety of hobbies and interests. Our Men's Group is designed to give our guys a christian social network to encourage, support and most importantly, have a laugh with one another! The group meets together as their schedules allow and keep in touch by email or phone.

Youth

For more information regarding the current youth program please speak to Ps Kathy Scott.

Prayer

You’re important to God, and you’re important to us Restore Family Church. When it comes to prayer, we believe that God wants to meet your needs and reveal His promises to you. So whatever you’re concerned about and need prayer for – we want to be here for you! And we want you to know that whatever you share with us stays between you and our prayer team. We have a prayer group at Restore Family Church. If you would like to come or you have any prayer requests please let us know!

Hands of Hope

We all need an extra hand at some point in life. ‘Hands of Hope’ is a Restore Family Church ministry initiative designed to offer help and support through:

Counselling Service

Counselling is a unique opportunity for people to explore areas of concern within their life, family or relationships. Glenda Morrison (Family Therapist) uses a blend of psychology, spirituality and theology with proven methods such as cognitive work, education and self-discovery to assist people to resolve issues, re-build relationships and cope more readily with everyday tasks.

Small Groups & Prayer

We encourage every person who attends Restore Family Church to attend a small social group. We have groups to suit every age and life stage including a mixed group, men’s group, women’s groups and our young adults have a fantastic youth program that all run throughout the week.

Everyone needs prayer for something going on in their lives. Being a member of a Christian social group is the best way to make friends and receive the support you need. In the event of an issue, problem or sickness, the Bible instructs the one who is unwell to call the elders of the church so you can be prayed for and supported through your illness.

We encourage you to contact Pastor Kathy Scott or your group leader if you are experiencing a difficulty. If you are not already a member of a small group and would like to host or join an existing group, please email church administration. We also have a prayer group at Restore Family Church who meet regularly.

Pastoral Care & Meals Program

Restore Family Church is here to help the community any way we can. If you or someone you know is struggling and would appreciate an emergency food hamper please contact church administration with the details. How can you help? Can you help us to be able to provide emergency food hampers to people in need? Just buy an extra pantry item each week and pop it in the basket near the church kitchen. We want to be able to give out many hampers to families in need whenever the opportunity arises. Or perhaps you would like to be more involved and help with meal rosters and deliveries?

Support Network

Sometimes we all need a little one-on-one time with someone we can talk to about life’s ups and downs. We offer a support network at church where people can catch up over a cuppa throughout the week and spend some quality time together with Christian friends who can encourage, support and lend an ear. How can you help? If you have some spare time and would like to join the network.

Bible Study

S.O.A.P. stands for Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer. It is a way of getting more out of your time in God's word. It's quite simple. When you sit for your daily quiet time read the bible as you normally would with one simple difference. Underline or make note of any verses that jump out at you with special significance. This is the basis for diving deeper and using S.O.A.P.

Scripture - Write out the verse or verses that stuck out to you in your reading.
Observation - What did you observe about the scripture that struck you? This can be one sentence or a whole book.
Application - How can you apply the observation so that it affects your life today?
Prayer - Write out a prayer to God based on what you just learned and ask him to help you apply this truth in your life.
